Sustainable Packaging TransformationsSM
Designing our way out of the plastic packaging problem.
A sobering fact – consumer goods plastic packaging is the largest contributor to global plastic waste. The good news: consumer demand for sustainably-designed packaging and meeting ESG goals is now a priority.
In our on-going series we will be sharing design inspirations that demonstrate before and after transformations on how to remove plastic from packaging while retaining premium, appealing, and most of all, sustainable packaging for consumers to love.
Get out of the bag… and into a recyclable, gravity fed “dosing” box.
Designed with the consumer in mind…
- One big box that serves multiple purposes: shopping, storage, serving.
- Easier to shop, more impactful planogram “set” at shelf.
- Convenient carry handle.
- Dual purpose: storage and usage – gravity fed side panel provides ½ cup serving/“dosing.”
- Recyclable box exterior and interior (bio-food protection film) made of sustainable materials that are fully recyclable/compostable.
Get out of the can… and into a recyclable pouch with pet food pods.
Designed with the consumer in mind…
One bag with 12 pods (the equivalent of 6
cans) serves multiple purposes:
shopping, storage, serving.
- Easier to shop, more impactful planogram “set” at shelf.
- Dual purpose: storage and serving (1 pod = 1/3 can of food).
- Resealable and recyclable pouch.
- Pods – flavored gelatin coated pods (that dissolve with a little water) for easy feeding, no mess or cleaning of cans for recycling.
- The gelatin coating may also be delivery mechanism for nutrients, special formulas etc.
Get out of the pouch… and into a Type3 molded fiber tray.
Designed with the consumer in mind…
Maintains current pack footprint and
functionality at shelf.
- Type3 molded fiber tray has debossed bone pattern to show bone size in pack.
- Easier for consumers to open, close, dispense and store.
- Exterior wrap made of sustainable FSC, compostable cellulose.
- Biodegradable/sustainable call-out on pack.
- Contains no plastic or multi-layer films like pouch.
Get out of the plastic pouch… and into a “pop top” refillable canister.
Designed with the consumer in mind…
- Refillable canister.
- Maintains hanging functionality at shelf.
- Canister size/width changes with bone sizes for easier navigation across portfolio.
- Easy for consumers to open, close, dispense and store.
- Canister can be made from: aluminum or
biodegradable FSC certified board stock, or type3 molded fiber. - Contains no plastic or multi-layer films like pouch.
Get out of the big box… and into a Type3 molded fiber refillable suitcase.
Designed with the consumer in mind…
- Refillable case makes it easy for consumers to open, close, dispense and store.
- Exterior, removable wrap made of sustainable FSC certified package stock, or compostable fiber board.
- Biodegradable tray breaks down in landfills in 180 days.
- Easy carry handle included on top of the case.
